The visit of ASATA CEO, Ms Robyn Christie excited Tourism Management students and lecturers alike. ASATA, the Association of South African Travel Agencies was formed in 1956 with the aim to create a representative forum in the industry to promote professional service. The association represents more than 85% of the industry including the head offices of most of the major industry brands.
The primary focus of ASATA is directed at improving the continued sustainability and profitability of its members and ensuring the delivery of a professional service to the travelling consumer.
Ms Christie not only shared her valuable industry experience but also enlightened students on how to sell the world to consumers. In her address, she empahsized the important role of the travel consultant as the distributor of travel products and the seller of dreams. Her knowledge and constant interaction with many international role players in the tourism industry kept students on the edge of their seats!
